A gunman opened fire at a Connecticut elementary school Friday killing 26 people, most of them children. The tragedy is the sixth mass shooting in the United States this year , according to data from Mother Jones. Lanza opened fire with two handguns inside two classrooms, one of the classrooms being his mother’s. Mass shootings are a unique feature of American life which have occurred consistently throughout history in every region of the country. The increased lethality of such incidents is made possible by the use of large capacity ammunition magazines (defined as more than 10-rounds) which enable a shooter to rapidly fire off as many as 100-rounds without having to reload the firearm. over the last 30 years, from what I’ve read, of 61 of them—24 in the last seven years alone–80% got their guns legally and acute paranoia, delusions, and depression were pervasive among them, with at least 35 of the killers committing suicide on or near the scene. At least 38 of them displayed signs of mental health problems prior to the killings. While Americans have seen many mass shootings in the past decades, the victims have rarely been so young.
On Saturday, some Democratic lawmakers called for sweeping new gun-control measures, a move certain to run up against stiff opposition from the nation’s powerful pro-gun lobby. As of today, there have been 70 mass shootings in the United States between 1982 and 2012, leaving 543 people dead (assuming the reports of 27 fatalities from today’s shootings are correct. ) Seven of those 70 shootings occurred this year. Sixty-eight of those 543 victims were killed this year. If the scenes of horror and heartbreak are now familiar, it’s because the past six years have been particularly bloody. Fully 45% of the victims of mass shootings in America over the past three decades were killed since 2007. That is a crisis.
Teenagers, including those who commit mass shootings, often hide things from their parents. In the case of Columbine, the vast writings and videos left behind by the 17- and 18-year-old killers do not indicate that anyone knew of their plans, and there was no criminal prosecution to that effect. Civil suits accusing the killers’ parents of not stopping the shootings were settled, although their depositions have been sealed for years to come. Depressingly, Mother Jones already created a map of mass shootings in America the last time we had one, so it was all ready to go when news of this morning’s shooting in a Connecticut elementary school broke. By their tally, there have been 61 mass murders in the past 30 years.
There is NO EVIDENCE indicating that arming Americans further will help prevent mass shootings or reduce the carnage, says Dr. Stephen Hargarten, a leading expert on emergency medicine and gun violence at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Armed civilians attempting to intervene are actually more likely to increase the bloodshed, says Hargarten, “given that civilian shooters are less likely to hit their targets than police in these circumstances. Is it just coincidence that Mr. Obama has been president for 4 years now, and in that 4 years we have had mass shootings in Colorado, Oregon, Arizona, and now Conneticut. The last mass shooting of these magnitudes happened under Bubba Clinton (with an assault weapons ban in place).
All these crimes committed by “crazies”, that absolutly nobody has clue, about what triggered them. Is there government covert involvement here? It’s no secret that the democrats/progressives/marxist, wants do away with the Constitution. They just have to disarm those pesky gun toteing bible thumping citizens first. That mental health aspect, combined with the current state of the economy, will make it all but impossible to eliminate mass shootings, those who study them say. And that makes them even more terrifying, even if the occurrences are still relatively rare.
Teachers need to start carrying Self Defense Weapons on them in the classroom like the Tornado 5-in-1 Defense System to help prevent these mass shootings in the near future!
The Tornado Defense System w/ Clip in Pink or Tornado Defense System w/ Clip in Black is lightweight and easy to use, and can be accessed and deployed in about one second. A single button releases the unit from the base and automatically activates (in less than one second) the alarm and strobe, calling for help and blinding the attacker. The Tornado personal defense system discharges eight one second bursts of pepper spray up to a distance of 15 feet, and with the built in finger lock you always know the unit is pointed in the right direction (so you can’t spray yourself).
The unit measures three and one-half inches x two and one quarter inches. It requires 2 CR2032 button batteries that are included. A free belt clip and lanyard are included with each unit purchased.
